These earrings were made by the KOJIMA women's cooperative in Fandriana, Madagascar. Being a part of KOJIMA provides income to single women experiencing homelessness in a way that uses local and sustainable materials. KOJIMA artists use leftover horns from zebu (Malagasy cattle) in the area. When zebu are killed for their meat, these horns are usually burned, releasing greenhouse gases. Instead, these artist turn them into beautiful jewelry! We buy them from the artists at prices they set themselves, no questions asked, and share them with you. If you like what you see, make sure to purchase an item or two so we can continue this partnership!

Maki is the Malagasy word for the ring-tailed lemur, aka King Julien, the most famous animal on the island!
