This basket was made by the KOJIMA women's cooperative in Fandriana, Madagascar. Being a part of KOJIMA provides income to single women experiencing homelessness in a way that uses local and sustainable materials. KOJIMA artists harvest raffia, a locally growing and regenerating Malagasy grass, and dye it with local plants like cassava. The raffia is dried, dyed, and woven into the intricate pieces you see here. Wrapped around the raffia are pieces of colorful plastic pollution that the artists have collected, cleaned, and woven in. We buy these pieces from the artists at prices they set themselves, no questions asked, and share them with you. If you like what you see, make sure to purchase an item or two so we can continue this partnership!

Esther is the name of the artist who made this piece, perfect for Easter!

Some of the plastic wrapping came off during shipping, so we have discounted this item by $10
